Live Event Painting FAQ

What can I expect from the live painting?

I will set up my easel and table in a designated area, and spend 2-4 hours (or more depending on the complexity of the painting and desired event length) completing a painting.

I recommend chosing a canvas that is large enough to be able to be seen by viewers around a room or area, though guests are welcome to come and take a closer look and chat or ask me questions while I paint.

I fully prepare my canvas ahead of time with finished edges, hanging hardware, and a base coat with a sketch so that I can jump into painting right away, and have a finished piece that’s ready to hang on the wall at the end of the event.

After the painting session, I will clean up my equipment and supplies, and either leave the painting with a designated person at the event, or, if necessary, take the painting with me to add desired finishing details before delivering the finished painting at a later date.

What kind of painting can you make for me?

I can work with you to chose the best subject and reference for your event painting, whether it is a landscape, cityscape, portrait, animals, or otherwise. If the event is such that you would like me to paint a scene or person from the day‘s event, I may need access to the subject to make sure that I can take a photograph if necessary to work with during my session.

I work with acrylic paints because they dry quickly and allow me to make a finished painting in one session that can be transported without the concern of a wet canvas.

The painting will be ready to hang at the end of the event (I paint the canvas edges in advance and add a wire to the back of it for hanging).

What is are the space requirements for live painting at my event?

I will need enough work space to set up an easel and a 16x36” table for my supplies, a space of approximately 5 by 4 feet should suffice. If I am painting a live scene, I need a set up place where I have the view that you would like captured.

Outdoor painting is always weather dependent, though I am happy to be flexible to make the event work if I need to move my set up due to weather or other unforeseen complications.

I bring my own battery powered lighting, so access to electricity is not necessary.

How do I book you for my event?

Start out by filling out the inquiry form below! Let me know about your event then I will contact you right away to let you know if I am available, and if so, to schedule a phone call. Even if you don’t have all of the specifics yet, we can discuss options. I’m also happy to answer any questions you may have.

Once all of details of your event and painting are decided, I’ll send a contract outlining what has been agreed upon. A deposit payment will be required to reserve your date.

What is the cost of having you paint at my event?

Cost is determined primarily by the size of the canvas, and covers up to a 4 hour painting session.

There may be additional costs if there are necessary extras, such as travel expenses, shipping of a finished painting (if I take it back to my studio after the event to add any desired details), or if you would like me to handle framing.

The base fees are as follows:*

16x20 - $1000
18x24 - $1200
20x30 - $1600
24x36 - $2200
30x40 - $3000

*Other sizes are available and can be priced at request. I recommend choosing a size that will be big enough for the size of your event, so that people can see the painting coming together from across the room.

Where are you available?

I am currently available for events in the Chicagoland area, including the city of Chicago and surrounding suburbs in Cook, McHenry, Lake, Kane, Du Page, Kendall, and Will Counties.

If you have an event that is further away, I’m happy to talk about what may be possible for you taking necessary travel and accommodation costs into consideration.
