Live Event Painting FAQ

What can I expect from the live painting?

I will set up my easel and table in a designated area, and spend 2-4 hours (or more depending on the complexity of the painting and desired event length) completing a painting.

I like to work on a canvas that is large enough to be able to be seen by viewers around a room or area, though guests are welcome to come and take a closer look and chat or ask me questions while I paint.

I fully prep my painting ahead of time with finished edges, hanging hardware, a base coat of a single color so that I can jump into the more interesting painting parts right away, and have a finished piece at the end of my session.

At the end of the painting session, I will clean up my equipment and supplies, and I can either leave the painting with a designated person at the event, or take it with me to add desired finishing details before delivering the finished painting.

What kind of painting can you make for me?

I will work with you to chose the best subject and reference for your event painting. If the event is such that you would like me to paint a scene or person from the day‘s event, I will need access to the subject to make sure that I can take a photograph if necessary to work with during my session.

I work with acrylic paints because they dry quickly and allow me to make a finished painting in one session that can be transported without the concern of a wet canvas. I recommend a choosing a canvas of at least 20x24” for good visibility of the painting session for your guests.

I prep my canvas and plan the painting so that you will have a finished painting at the end of the event, but I am happy to take the canvas home with me if there are desired finishing details that you would like added.

The painting will be ready to hang at the end of the event (I paint the canvas edges in advance and add a wire to the back of it for hanging), but it will not be framed. If you would like me to take care of the framing of the finished painting, I’m happy to make arrangements with a local framer. (Costs are additional and will increase turnaround based on the framers time and availability.

What is are the space requirements for live painting at my event?

I will need enough work space to set up an easel and a 16x36” table for my supplies.

For indoor events, or outdoor events held in the evening, I will need access to an outlet for lighting. Outdoor painting is always weather dependent.

How do I book you for my event?

Start out by filling out the inquiry form below! Let me know about your event. Even if you don’t have all of the specifics yet, we can discuss options. I’m also happy to answer any questions you may have.

Once all of details of your event and painting are worked out, I’ll send a contract outlining what has been agreed upon. A deposit payment will be required to reserve your date.

What is the cost of having you paint at my event?

Cost is determined primarily by the size of the canvas and how complex the painting will be (ie, a portrait of several people with a detailed background will take longer to complete than a single subject or portrait with a simplified background or a landscape.)

If there are extra requirements, such as travel expenses, shipping of a finished painting that I take with me after the event to add any desired details (or the time allotted at the event doesn’t allow me to finish a complex painting), or if you would like help with framing, these types of additional elements will add on to the cost.

After we are able to discuss the specifics of your event, I can put together a quote for you.

Where are you available?

I am currently available for events in the Chicagoland area. If you have an event that is further away, I’m happy to talk about what may be possible for you.
