Original artwork. Portrait of Phyllis Latour Doyle, who was a 20 year old woman when she joined the Women’s Auxilary Air Force during World War II to work as a flight mechanic. Three years later she became a British secret agent, airdropping behind enemy lines under the cover of night.
Latour would knit codes into hair ribbons that she would pass along, taking advantage of the fact that the Nazi’s were generally less suspicious of women. Her 135 secret messages conveyed information that was used to help Allied forces prepare for the Normandy landings on D-Day. Part of The Inspiration Project.
Mixed media on watercolor paper.
